The Strategy for Safety: Preventing Crises Through Safety Audits

Sara Goldsmith Schwartz authored a Special Feature in the January 2013 issue of NAIS‘s Independent School Magazine entitled: “The Strategy for Safety: Preventing Crises Through Safety Audits.” In this article, Sara discusses why each school should determine its own safety audit strategy based on its unique circumstances, and recommends that schools address at least the following topics: (1) physical security and surveillance on campus; (2) safety-related policies and procedures applicable to students; (3) safety-related policies and procedures applicable to employees, volunteers, visitors, and contractors; and (4) crisis management plans.
