Soyoung Yoon


Soyoung Yoon is an attorney at Schwartz Hannum PC and a member of the Firm’s Education Practice Group.  Soyoung advises the Firm’s school and education clients regarding the full range of education law matters, including admission applications, enrollment agreements, parent/student handbooks, acceptable use of technology agreements, social media policies, medication administration policies, trip compliance, homestay compliance, crisis management plans, student records and privacy, and data security compliance.  Soyoung assists colleges and universities with policies and procedures affecting students and employees, including student complaint procedures and Title IX compliance.  In addition, Soyoung conducts training on responding effectively to student complaints of harassment or sexual violence.  Soyoung also assists a variety of clients regarding federal and state labor and employment laws, including employee handbooks, criminal background checks, employee classification under FLSA, wage and hour, FMLA compliance, employment applications, employment agreements, severance agreements, and workplace monitoring and privacy issues.

Prior to joining the Firm, Soyoung worked with Beck Reed Riden LLP in Boston, where she was involved in matters pertaining to employment discrimination, non-competition agreements, commercial and business law, and school law.

While in law school, Soyoung served as a judicial intern at the Massachusetts Appeals Court, assisting the Honorable Cynthia J. Cohen and the then Honorable Fernande R. V. Duffly (currently Associate Justice at the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court) with appellate opinions for civil cases.  Soyoung also served as a law clerk for the hearing officers at the Massachusetts Bureau of Special Education Appeals. Soyoung represented low to moderate-income clients through the Boston College Legal Assistance Bureau Community Enterprise Clinic.

Soyoung has significant professional experience as a researcher and administrator in education, especially for children with disabilities, including her role as a school administrator at Hawthorne Country Day School in Hawthorne, NY and the Fred S. Keller School in Yonkers, NY.  Soyoung also served as adjunct faculty at City College, City University of New York and authored several publications related to education in peer-reviewed journals.
